Law enforcement has officially identified a man who San Diego police snipers shot and killed last month after he brandished a gun at neighbors and workers in the Scripps Ranch area.

He was identified as 59-year-old Eric Kukalow of San Diego.

The shooting took place on March 25, roughly an hour after officers were summoned to the area of Angelique Street, north of Cypress Canyon Park Drive, to follow up on reports just after noon of a man who was threatening bystanders with a gun.

The man was described by the San Diego Sheriff’s Office as a 59-year-old white male, allegedly pointed a handgun at construction workers on Angelique, then at a pest-control worker.

Police saw the suspect holding what appeared to be a semi-automatic pistol and ordered him to drop it, but he did not comply.

The investigation is continuing. Law enforcement is asking anyone with information about this incident to call the Homicide Unit at (858) 285-6330, or after hours at (858) 868-3200.  Callers can remain anonymous by contacting San Diego Crime Stoppers online, or at (888) 580-8477.
