A 45-year-old man suspected of a parole violation was taken into custody in Vista in connection with allegedly selling drugs following a compliance check, authorities announced Thursday.
Deputies from the Vista Sheriff’s Station responded to a room at the Days Inn at 630 Sycamore Avenue, near state Route 78, around 11:30 a.m. Wednesday to conduct a compliance check on James Butler, according to the San Diego County Sheriff’s Office.
During the investigation, deputies determined that Butler had violated the terms of his parole and notified state parole officials after allegedly discovering approximately 50 grams of methamphetamine within his possession and a butane honey oil lab inside the hotel room.
Sheriff’s Marijuana Enforcement Team and county Hazmat investigators responded to the location for an independent investigation.
Butler was booked on suspicion of selling a controlled substance. His wife, 54-year-old Kelly Butler, was also taken into custody.
Sheriff’s officials stated that both suspects are facing child endangerment charges after deputies discovered a child at the location.
The San Diego County Child and Family Well-Being Department was contacted and officials placed the child into the protected custody of other family members.
