
Fire crews responded to a high-rise senior living facility in East Village Saturday and found a blaze that started in a mattress.
Units. dispatched at 2:15 p.m., arrived a few minutes later at the Potiker Family Senior Residence, a 200-unit home for low income seniors on 14th Street, according to the San Diego Fire-Rescue Department.
The department had the blaze, in a fifth-floor unit, under control less than 30 minutes later. One patient was sent to the hospital and others were being evaluated.
A total of 92 personnel aided in the effort, including three medics, four trucks and 13 engines, officials said.
The American Red Cross also responded to aid victims. The Coronado and National City fire departments provided assistance.
