Assemblywoman Laurie Davies will be hosting two Senior Scam Stopper events on Wednesday, July 10, in response to rising internet crime.
The first will take place at the El Corazon Center in Oceanside from 9:30 a.m. to 11 a.m. and will feature local leaders from the city of Oceanside as well as San Diego County District Attorney Summer Stephan.
The second event will take place at the McClellan Adult Activity & Resource Center in Vista from 1:30 p.m. to 3 p.m., and feature Vista Mayor John Franklin, as well as San Diego County Sheriff Kelly Martinez.
In 2023, San Diego County seniors lost approximately 97.3 million dollars to elder scams. Money scams targeting seniors are increasingly common in Southern California and across the United States.
More than 77,000 Californians were targeted by internet fraud in 2023 according to the latest data from the FBI.
Both events will include law enforcement representing San Diego’s Elder Justice Task Force focused on combating elder fraud. Additionally, seniors will see a demonstration of tech scams, as well as educational information on what to look out for. Together, we can work to educate and protect seniors in our community from falling victim to scams.
Speakers and law enforcement will be available for questions after the event. To RSVP, click the link HERE:
