A 43-year-old man was shot and killed Sunday afternoon in an “intentionally targeted” murder outside an apartment building in the East Village.
San Diego Police responded at 3:05 p.m. to the 600 block of 16th Street and found the victim, a Black male, down on the sidewalk suffering from multiple gunshot wounds.
Officers rendered first aid, but the man was later pronounced dead at a local hospital. His name was not released pending family notification.
“It appears the victim was walking with a group on the sidewalk,” said Lt. Jud Campbell in a statement. “The suspect approached the group and shot the victim multiple times.”
“It does appear the suspect intentionally targeted the victim and not the people around him,” Campbell said.
The suspect, described as a Black male in dark clothing, ran to a silver or grey sedan and drove toward the Route 94 freeway.
The incident was the second targeted homicide in the past 24 hours. On Saturday evening, a gunman fired multiple rounds at a car entering an apartment garage in University City, killing one man and wounding another.
Anyone with information regarding this incident was encouraged to call the police homicide unit at (619) 531-2293 or San Diego County Crime Stoppers at (888) 580-8477.
