A man walked up to a car as it was entering an apartment parking garage in University City and opened fire, killing one man and wounding another on Saturday evening.

San Diego Police Lt. Daniel Meyer said officers responded to Nobel Drive and Lombard Place at 8:41 p.m. Saturday and found one victim on the street and the other near the car, which was stopped outside the entrance to the garage.

“Both males were suffering from multiple gunshot wounds and were transported to a local hospital for treatment,” Meyer said, adding that “based on the information gathered so far, it does appear that this was a targeted attack.”

Meyer said the man found in the street later died from his wounds; the other victim was listed in stable condition. The two were described as Hispanic men in their 30s.

The suspect was described as a man wearing a light-colored jacket and dark pants. He fled on foot.

Noble Drive was closed in both directions for several hours while police investigated the shooting.

Anyone with information about the shooting was urged to call the SDPD’s Homicide Unit at 619-531-2293 or San Diego County Crime Stoppers at 888-580-8477.
