A 30-year-old motorist was fatally injured Tuesday in a predawn freeway wreck in North Park, authorities said.
The San Diego man was heading south with a passenger on Interstate 805 about 3 a.m. when he lost control of the Ford Focus he was driving, sending it veering off the freeway and crashing into an embankment, according to the California Highway Patrol.
The impact ejected the driver, leaving him gravely injured, CHP public-affairs Officer Salvador Castro said. Paramedics took him to a hospital, where he was pronounced dead. His name was withheld pending family notification.
The passenger suffered minor injuries in the wreck, Castro said.
It was not immediately known if the recent heavy rains played a role in the crash, which was under investigation.
