A man was hospitalized with major injuries Friday after his vehicle went off westbound Interstate 905 in San Ysidro and crashed into a tree.

San Diego Fire-Rescue Department crews extricated the man from the wreckage, according to OnScene TV. The victim told California Highway Patrol officers he was involved in a hit-and-run accident just before 4 a.m. Friday.

The crash victim was taken to Mercy Hospital.

The CHP was investigating the crash.
