One person was killed and another was injured Wednesday in a two-vehicle collision involving a wrong-way driver on southbound Interstate 805 near East San Ysidro Boulevard in the Nestor neighborhood, according to the California Highway Patrol.

The crash was reported at 11:55 a.m. and involved a blue minivan and white Audi sedan, said Jose Ysea, San Diego Fire-Rescue Department spokesman. The Audi, driven by a 29-year-old San Diego man, “was traveling northbound in southbound lanes of traffic,” according to a CHP news release.

An unidentified male was driving the Honda minivan in the second lane when the Audi collided with his vehicle, the CHP said. The minivan driver was killed, the CHP added.

First responders took the Audi driver to a hospital with major but non-life-threatening injuries, according to the CHP. Multiple lanes on the highway were closed while authorities investigated the crash, the CHP said.

The deceased man’s name is being withheld pending notification of family members, according to the CHP.
