A police sergeant and a tow truck driver teamed up Friday to rescue a motorist who became incapacitated while driving in Bay Park.

The male was driving a truck from a landscaping company at Cowley Way and Field Street when he is believed to have suffered a heart attack or a stroke, according to OnScene.TV.

A driver from Quality Towing spotted the victim after he crashed into a retaining wall, and a member of the San Diego Police Department, identified only as Sgt. Rojas, joined him.

The sergeant, seeing that a street pole might trap the man in his truck, had the tow truck driver hook a cable to the truck and pull it away from the signpost, to give firefighters better access to the victim.

Medics rushed the man to a local hospital. There was no word late Friday on his condition.
