A construction accident caused a natural-gas leak that forced a closure of part of a Poway thoroughfare Friday and prompted evacuations of homes and businesses along several streets.
The utility-line problem in the area of Holland and Pomerado roads in Poway was reported about 9:45 a.m., according to the San Diego County Sheriff’s Department.
While awaiting repairs by San Diego Gas & Electric crews, authorities blocked off a stretch of Pomerado Road and cleared people out of residential and commercial properties on Wilsey Way, Witt Place and Frame, Glen Oak, Halper, Powers, Tarzana, Taunt and Tobiasson roads.
Utility workers had the leak under control shortly before 4 p.m., according to a statement from the city of Poway.
The evacuation orders were lifted about an hour later, but the street closure remained in effect until further notice, officials said. There was no immediate estimate for when natural-gas service would be restored to all the affected addresses.
No injuries were reported.
