Firefighters have responded to a series of vegetation fires in recent days in San Ysidro, the most recent on Sunday morning.
The first fire was at Willow Road and Calle Primera along southbound Interstate 5 at 7:13 a.m.
The second fire was at the northbound Interstate 805 onramp from East San Ysidro Boulevard.
The fires, according to OnScene.TV, always occur within a short distance of each other and next to freeways.
One of the Sunday fires burned approximately one acre. Crews stopped it from spreading as flames moved near heavy brush.
On Saturday at about 10 p.m., a fire broke out along the northbound I-5 near the Dairy Mart Road exit.
Earlier in the week, a fire burned a building next to Sunday’s I-805 blaze.
A witness, according to OnScene.TV, told authorities that a man at one of the scenes started the fires. That man fled on foot.
The Metro Arson Strike Team, made up of personnel from the San Diego Fire-Rescue Department, San Diego police and two federal agencies, is investigating.
