A collision in a neighborhood just north of El Cajon left a motorcyclist dead Monday and a motorist under arrest on suspicion of driving while intoxicated.
The 32-year-old man’s eastbound 2005 Suzuki GSXR 1000 two-wheeler crashed into the driver’s side of a northbound 2011 Kia Sportage at Pepper and Plumeria drives in Bostonia shortly after 7 a.m., according to the California Highway Patrol.
Medics took the motorcyclist, an El Cajon resident, to Sharp Memorial Hospital in San Diego, where he was pronounced dead. His name was withheld pending family notification.
The driver of the SUV, 59-year-old Pamela Mae Gilmore of Santee, suffered minor injuries and declined medical treatment, CHP public-affairs Officer Travis Garrow said. An 83-year-old El Cajon woman who had been riding in the Kia was unhurt.
After questioning and evaluating Gilmore, investigators determined that she allegedly was under the influence of drugs and alcohol and arrested her on suspicion of felony DUI causing injury and gross vehicular manslaughter.
Gilmore was booked into Los Colinas women’s jail in Santee, where she was being held on $100,000 bail pending arraignment.
