Sunset Cliffs rescue

A body was found Thursday afternoon in the ocean near a Sunset Cliffs-area neighborhood where authorities had been searching for a missing man.

The discovery in the water off the 1000 block of Sunset Cliffs Boulevard was reported about 12:30 p.m., according to San Diego Police. Lifeguards were called to retrieve the body.

Police had been searching in the area since about 8:30 a.m. for a man in his mid-70s who had been reported missing by his wife, SDPD public-affairs Officer Billy Hernandez.

It was not immediately clear if the body was that of the missing resident.
