A pilot landed a small plane in a Carmel Valley field Sunday after the aircraft experienced major engine failure.
The Cessna 170 landed safely around 5 p.m. near the intersection of Carmel Valley Road and Camino Del Sur. The aircraft was not damaged.
The plane with a pilot and flight instructor had taken off from McClellan-Palomar Airport in Carlsbad and was flying to Gillespie Field in El Cajon. The pilot was reportedly being re-certified for his license during the flight.
The Cessna 172 Skyhawk is a four-seat, single-engine plane that has been in production since the 1950s.
