An assailant was arrested Thursday morning on suspicion of stabbing a person at a convenience store near Petco Park in downtown San Diego’s East Village neighborhood, police said.
Dispatchers received a call around 7:45 a.m. from a person who reported that a shoplifter had stabbed another person in the 7-Eleven near the intersection of Ninth Avenue and J Street, San Diego police public-affairs Officer Billy Hernandez said.
Officers responded to the scene and took the suspected assailant into custody a short time later, Hernandez said.
The victim was taken to a hospital for treatment of at least one stab wound, which was not believed to be life-threatening, he said.
No details about the victim or the suspected assailant were immediately available and the circumstances leading up to the stabbing were under investigation.
