A suicidal person armed with a gun was taken into custody in Santee following a three-hour standoff, authorities reported Saturday morning.

Deputies responded at 8:20 p.m. Friday to a home in the 8400 block of Graves Avenue and told nearby residents to shelter in place, according to the San Diego County Sheriff’s Department.

At 11:30 p.m., the person was safely taken into custody, the sheriff’s said.

The age, gender and name of the person were not immediately disclosed.

“Trained counselors are available at (888) 724-7240 to offer free and confidential assistance 24 hours a day to those having suicidal thoughts or anyone who knows someone who might be considering self-harm,” the sheriff’s department said.
