Carlie Joe Bentley, 49, was arrested on Interstate 17 in Black Canyon City, about 22 miles north of Phoenix. Bentley was apparently headed back to Kentucky with the 14-year-old boy in tow, the sheriff’s department said.

Bentley allegedly used an online dating app to connect with the boy then traveled to San Diego to meet up and have sex with him, the FBI said.

The 49-year-old is being held in Yavapai County Jail without bond and charged with traveling with intent to engage in illicit sexual conduct, according to the complaint filed in San Diego.

According to the complaint, the boy left a note Jan. 13 telling his family he is running away. Authorities were able to track the boy through his cell phone.

San Diego Police Department and the FBI are now handling the case.
