San Diego Police are investigating the attempted sexual assault early Sunday morning of a janitorial employee in a building in Little Italy.

Police said a man confronted the victim at approximately 4:30 a.m., brandishing a weapon and pushing her into a back room.

The woman was able to fight off the man and run out of the business in the 1700 block of India Street. Her assailant took her keys and fled in her vehicle,  a tan 1998 GMC Jimmy with California license plate 7VOY594.

The suspect was described as a white male with a medium complexion, between 25 and 30, 5’-5” tall, weighing about 130 pounds, unshaven with dark curly hair. He was wearing a white baseball cap with black stripes and stars resembling an American flag, a black T-shirt, tan shorts and dark, high-top tennis shoes.

Detectives with the sex crimes unit are currently searching for additional witnesses and evidence. Anyone with information is asked to call the unit at (619) 531-2210 or San Diego County Crime Stoppers at (888) 580-8477.
