An 82-year-old man apparently drove through a red light in Mission Valley Sunday, causing a three-car pileup that left another driver badly hurt, police said.
The driver, in a Jeep Compass, went through a red light on Friars Road at the southbound Interstate 15 offramp at around 7:30 a.m.
It hit a Toyota Camry driven by a 29-year-old man, and the Camry then hit a Ford pickup driven by a 43-year-old man, said Officer Dino Delimitros of the San Diego Police Department.
The Camry driver had a broken leg and head cuts, but his injuries were not life threatening, according to Delimitros. The other two drivers had minor injuries and complaints of pain.
It was the second weekend crash involving a driver in his 80s, running a red light in a Jeep, in San Diego. A similar crash injured a motorcyclist in downtown San Diego Saturday night.
