An 82-year-old man reportedly drove through a red light and smacked his car into a motorcyclist in downtown San Diego, before driving off and later getting arrested.
The man, later identified as Herbert Green, was believed by police to have been behind the wheel of a 2007 Nissan Xterra around 9:41 p.m. Saturday, according to Officer Robert Heims of the San Diego Police Department.
His car ran a red light at Fifth Avenue and Ash Street, and hit a motorcyclist strongly enough to fling the motorcyclist to fly off his bike and into a parked car.
The rider was publicly identified only as a 26-year-old man.
“The rider was transported to the hospital with life-threatening head injuries,” Heims said
“The Xterra continued northbound on Fifth Avenue, where he was stopped and arrested by police a few blocks away.”
