A 38-year-old ex-convict from San Diego was arrested on suspicion of robbing a Kearny Mesa gas station in October, police said Wednesday.

Marlon Franklin Beason was arrested Tuesday while leaving his City Heights residence, San Diego Police Lt. Eric Hays said. He’s accused of the early morning Oct. 14 armed robbery of the Chevron gas station at 7740 Copley Park Place.

The robber wore a ski mask to obscure his face and brandished a handgun and a gas can while demanding money from the clerk, police said. The clerk complied and the thief made off with an undisclosed amount of cash.

“Beason was identified through forensic evidence recovered at the scene,” Hays said, and when arrested he “was in possession of additional evidence linking him to the robbery.”

Beason was booked on suspicion of robbery and gun possession, Hays said.

Court records show Beason was charged a decade ago for the 2006 home- invasion robbery of a 61-year-old man. In that case, Beason was convicted of robbery, false imprisonment and receiving stolen property, though the stolen property charge was later overturned by an appeals court.

Beason was found guilty of forcing his way inside an apartment and robbing the 61-year-old victim of items that included 12 silver bars. Prosecutors said Beason forced his way inside the victim’s home, pointed a gun at his head and bound him before stealing drugs, jewelry, the silver bars and cash.
