A 61-year-old Campo woman was thrown from her car and killed when she rolled the vehicle after losing control around a curve near Campo Elementary School, authorities said Friday.

The deadly single-vehicle crash happened about 3:30 p.m. Thursday on southbound Buckman Springs Road just south of Lake Morena Drive, said California Highway Patrol Officer J.T. Neibert. The unnamed victim’s 2003 Hyundai Accent drifted off the right side of the road as she approached a left- hand curve.

“She overcorrected with her steering and veered left across the roadway,” Neibert said in his report. “The vehicle spun out of control and went into the dirt area east of the road. The vehicle overturned and she was ejected.”

The victim, the sole occupant of the Accent, was not wearing a seat belt, Neibert reported. No other vehicles were involved.

The deadly crash in front of the Campo school was the second of its kind at that location within the past three months. On July 27, a 47-year-old Campo woman was killed when she lost control around the curve, drifted off the right side of the roadway and slammed into a tree.
