A young woman was allegedly robbed at gunpoint Sunday in Oak Park by two men who may have targeted her as part of a ploy set up by an old high school friend.

The 18-year-old victim says she agreed to meet her former classmate in a park near Oak Park Elementary School after the pair reconnected via the social media application Snapchat.

“She wanted to talk to me about some personal issues,” the victim told a reporter at the crime scene.

As soon as the two women met face to face, sometime around 2 p.m. in the 5200 block of Maple Street, two black males ambushed the victim, according to San Diego police Lt. Charles Lara.

One of the suspects was armed and demanded everything the victim was carrying, Lara continued.

Three cell phones, $1,100 in cash, and car keys were handed over to the robbers, according to the victim.

The female high school buddy and two male suspects took off; the victim was not injured in the incident.

Lara said the investigation indicates the trio was “in cahoots” and he offered a warning.

“One should take great caution with people that we meet through social media applications.”
