A 20-year-old motorist was killed Tuesday and two other people were injured when a car crashed into the back of a parked commercial truck alongside a North County roadway.
The crash occurred about 8:15 a.m., when a westbound Ford Focus veered off Scripps Poway Parkway near Danielson Street in Poway for unknown reasons and plowed into a broken-down Sparkletts delivery vehicle, according to sheriff’s officials.
The driver of the car, a Poway resident, died at the scene of the accident, Sgt. David Cheever said. Her name was withheld pending family notification.
A 19-year-old Scripps Ranch woman who had been riding in the Ford had to be cut out of the wreckage, the sergeant said. Medics airlifted her to Palomar Hospital in Escondido for treatment of serious injuries, Cheever said.
The 27-year-old truck driver was taken to a Poway hospital. His condition was not released.
