The San Diego County Medical Examiner’s Office Sunday released the name of a man killed in a car crash on the rocks of Carrizo Gorge in East County.
Investigators said the remains of Michael Duane Lawson, 57, of Mexicali, were located near a vehicle rollover crash off Carrizo Gorge Road, near Jacumba.
The medical examiner’s office did not give an exact time or cause of death for Lawson, whose body showed early signs of decomposition. At 5:30 p.m. Friday, a U.S. Border Patrol agent was on duty near Interstate 8 when he saw a vehicle on its side several hundred feet into a steep ravine, according to the medical examiner’s office.
The agent found Lawson’s body near several large rocks, the medical examiner’s office said. The California Highway Patrol is now investigating the case. No further details were available.
