The San Diego Police Department is planning a DUI and driver’s license checkpoint somewhere within the city limits on Saturday night.

The checkpoint is scheduled from 11 p.m. Saturday to 3 a.m. Sunday at a location chosen because of the frequency of collisions and DUI arrests.

Officers will be looking for signs of alcohol or drug impairment and also checking drivers for proper licensing. Motorists will be delayed only momentarily.

Such checkpoints are routinely announced in advance as a deterrent to drinking and driving.

Motorists caught driving impaired can expect the impact of an arrest to include jail time, fines, fees, DUI classes other expenses that can exceed $10,000.
