Three detainees at the George Bailey Detention Facility in Otay Mesa were hospitalized Sunday from a fight that broke out among about 20 men, according to the San Diego County Sheriff’s Department.
The fight started shortly after 1 p.m. in a day room, when one inmate attacked another inmate, and it quickly grew from there. Numerous deputies and supervisors responded to the area and were initially able to stop the fight. But the inmates began to fight again as deputies prepared to enter the module, sheriff’s officials said.
Deputies were eventually able to get the situation under control and stop the fighting. That’s when they discovered the three injured inmates and called paramedics. The inmates were taken to local area hospitals for treatment for various injuries, but the extent of their injuries was not yet released by the Sheriff’s department.
