Two employees of an El Cajon metal shop were hospitalized this afternoon when a 2-alarm fire broke out at the business adjacent to Gillespie Field.

Heartland Fire & Rescue received several calls at about noon from witnesses who reported seeing smoke and fire at Precision Metal Products in the 800 block of West Bradley Avenue.

Firefighters from El Cajon, Santee and Cal Fire responded to the fire, a Heartland Fire dispatcher said.

One person was taken to the UCSD Medical Center Burn Unit, while a second victim was hospitalized because of smoke inhalation.

Investigators had not yet determined a cause of the fire or assessed the amount of damage that was done to the business.
