A man already in jail on an unrelated charge was rebooked Monday on suspicion of opening fire on a group of people in the Encanto neighborhood four weeks ago, killing one person and wounding another.

Deshaun Prescott, 25, and another man allegedly shot 18-year-old Greggory Davis and 25-year-old Avery Ealy with pistols near the intersection of 61st and Alderley streets shortly after 5:30 p.m. Aug. 2, then ran off to the east, according to San Diego Police.

Officers arrived to find evidence of a shooting but no victims, Lt. Manny Del Toro said. A short time later, staffers at Paradise Valley Hospital in National City reported that the two gunshot victims had arrived there.

The lieutenant did not disclose what led investigators to identify Prescott as one of the assailants. The second shooter remains unidentified and at large.

Prescott was being held at San Diego Central Jail — where he has been since being arrested on a probation violation Aug. 21 — without bail. His arraignment on a murder charge was scheduled for Wednesday afternoon.
