Police arrested the driver of a stolen vehicle who led Escondido Police, San Diego County Sheriff’s and California Highway Patrol on a high-speed chase to Temecula.
It happened late at night on Friday evening, when Escondido Police noticed the stolen vehicle on West Valley Parkway. They followed the driver as he drove onto the northbound Interstate 15.
The driver attempted to evade police as they followed closely behind, reaching speeds of over 100 mph at times.
Police stationed ahead of the chase laid out spike strips to puncture the suspect’s vehicle tires. Even after his tires were punctured, the driver continued to flee.
The California Highway Patrol performed a pit maneuver, which was finally able to stop the driver. After the suspect collided with the freeway guard rail, he quickly bolted from the car.
Then the suspect ran down the side of the highway, onto the Pechanga Casino and Resort Golf Course. A police helicopter tracked the suspect’s movements, while officers followed in hot pursuit with police dogs.
He was even able to outrun the dogs, according to San Diego County Sheriff Sergeant Pocklington.
Once the suspect made his way from the freeway to the intersection of Pechanga Parkway and Temecula Parkway, the police caught and arrested him.
The suspect appeared to be a hispanic male in his early thirties. There was no further information available and police are continuing their investigation.
