A man who stabbed his landlord after an argument in their Sherman Heights apartment last summer pleaded guilty Monday to assault with a deadly weapon.

Brandon Gaubert, 32, also admitted that he caused great bodily injury to Ernest Pierce, who was stabbed in the neck and chest.

Deputy District Attorney David McNees said Pierce ran to a market on 20th Street about noon last Aug. 17 after arguing with Gaubert about his behavior. Police found the defendant near the market a short time later and arrested him.

Other charges, including premeditated attempted murder, were dropped in exchange for the plea.

Judge Michael Groch said Gaubert faces up to seven years in prison when he’s sentenced on Sept. 26.
