A 23-year-old man was killed Wednesday morning when the SUV he was driving slammed into the cargo trailer of a trash-hauling big rig at the end of a freeway offramp near Mission Trails Regional Park.
Tyler De Guide-Rickard of Spring Valley ran a stoplight at high speed while exiting westbound state Route 52 onto Mast Boulevard about 5:15 a.m., according to the California Highway Patrol.
De Guide-Rickard’s vehicle struck the back of the eastbound semi broadside, winding up wedged beneath it with the mortally injured victim pinned inside, the CHP reported. He died at the scene.
No one else was hurt in the crash, San Diego police Officer Dan Lasher said.
The wreck forced a nearly five-hour closure of the eastbound and westbound SR-52 exits to Mast Boulevard while authorities investigated the fatality and cleaned up the intersection.
