San Diego Police said two 7-Eleven stores were targeted by robbers early Monday morning in the Hillcrest and South Park neighborhoods.

Two men toting a gun and a machete attempted to rob a South Park-area 7-Eleven at Fern and Hawthorn Streets shortly after 2:30 a.m., but fled empty-handed when the clerk ran off.

Police described one of the suspects as Hispanic, about 5 feet 7 and heavyset. He was wearing a mask, a hooded sweatshirt and jeans. The other was Hispanic, about 6 feet tall and wearing a black shirt and jeans.

In the second incident, a 7-Eleven store at Fourth and Robinson avenues in Hillcrest was robbed at gunpoint shortly before 4 a.m. The robber demanded money from an employee and fled with an undisclosed amount.

The suspect was described as white or Hispanic, 32 to 36 years old and about 5 feet 9. He was wearing sunglasses, a bandana and a dark blue jacket.
