A teenage Oceanside boy ran away from home Friday evening, and police asked for the public’s help in locating him.

Shawn Ryan Dowlearn, 15, left a note for his parents saying he would be back in a couple of years, according to Oceanside Police Lt. Leonard Cosby. Police did not suspect foul play or any other suspicious activity in connection with the boy’s disappearance. He ran away while his parents were out for dinner.

Dowlearn was described as Hispanic with short brown hair and brown eyes, with a scar on his forehead and a scar near his left eye. He is 5 feet, 7-inches tall and weighs 115 pounds.

He was last seen wearing a fedora hat, gray jacket, faded black jeans, gray and black sneakers and carrying a military style backpack filled with camping equipment, according to Cosby. He was riding a 26-inch, gray Murray mountain bike.

Cosby said Dowlearn likes camping and going on adventures. Anyone with information on Dowlearn should call Oceanside Police dispatch at (760) 435-4911.
