A woman riding a bicycle was struck by a vehicle and killed Friday in Santee.

The victim was riding a bicycle north along the east curb in the 9300 block of Cuyamaca Street just before noon when she suddenly veered left across both northbound lanes, said Sgt. Joe Passalaqua of the San Diego County Sheriff’s Department.

“A motorist was traveling north in the number one lane on Cuyamaca Street when he saw the bicyclist and attempted to maneuver his vehicle around her but was unable to,” Passalaqua said.

The woman was unconscious when taken from the scene to Sharp Memorial Hospital in San Diego, where she was pronounced dead at 12:46 p.m., he said.

Her name and age were unknown, Passalacqua said.

“It appears the driver of the vehicle was not at fault,” Passalacqua said.
