A man accused of fatally beating another man and dumping his body under a carport in a Bay Terraces-area neighborhood pleaded not guilty Friday to a murder charge.

Emanuel Dunn Jr., 48, was ordered held in lieu of $1 million bail in the death of 56-year-old Mark Donald Preville.

Police responding to a report of an injured person in the 6800 block of Panamint Road on June 6 found Preville bleeding and unconscious in a parking lot. He died at the scene despite lifesaving attempts on the part of the officers and paramedics.

Police have disclosed no suspected motive for the deadly assault.

Deputy District Attorney Steven Schott said a fingerprint on a bloody newspaper was linked to Dunn and well as DNA taken from the victim’s body.

A status conference was set for Oct. 23 and a preliminary hearing for Oct. 29.
