A young man accused of chasing down and fatally stabbing a friend during an altercation near the Olympic Training Center pleaded not guilty Friday to a murder charge.
Saul Jonathan Orozco, 19, was ordered held on $2 million bail in the death of 18-year-old Carlos Gutierrez.
Witnesses said the victim ran from his attacker and tried to seek refuge in a home on Cielo Circulo about 6 p.m. Tuesday.
Orozco allegedly followed Gutierrez into the home and stabbed him to death.
The victim’s sister told NBC 7 that the defendant was a friend of her brother’s who must have “lost his mind.”
Orozco, who will be back in court Aug. 17 for a status conference, faces 26 years to life in prison if convicted.
