A wildfire spread over brushy open terrain near Lake Henshaw Thursday, destroying at least one structure and threatening others as ground and airborne crews worked to halt the fast-moving flames.

The blaze erupted for unknown reasons about 11:30 a.m. off State Route 76 and Church Road in the rural Rincon area, according to Cal Fire.

Within 45 minutes, about 15 acres and one building of undetermined type had burned, said Kendal Bortisser, a fire captain with the state agency. Other structures were potentially in the path of the flames, he said.

Authorities closed a stretch of SR-76 in the area of State Route 79 as a public safety measure, according to the California Highway Patrol.

By shortly after 1 p.m., firefighters had halted the blaze at roughly 25 acres, Bortisser said.

No injuries were reported.
