Five auto burglary suspects in a stolen car — some of them juveniles — led sheriff’s deputies on a brief chase around Rancho San Diego early Monday but were later arrested.

A deputy responding to a report of a vehicle break-in on Via Antigua around 2:40 a.m. saw a white Honda Civic clip a parked car while speeding away from the scene and attempted to pull it over, but the driver took off, San County Diego Sheriff‘s Sgt. David Toner said.

The driver attempted to turn from Jamacha Road left onto Fuerte Heights Lane, but struck a dirt embankment and got stuck in a nearby drainage ditch, Toner said.

Four of the car’s five occupants — two adults and three minors — attempted to run away from the disabled car but were caught shortly after. Toner said the fifth suspect was taken into custody with the help of a sheriff’s dog.

Toner said the five suspects, whose names were not immediately available, would be charged with vehicle theft and vehicle burglary.
