Flames tore through a Jamacha-area house Thursday night, killing one person and causing extensive structural damage to the home.

The blaze in the 7100 block of Viewcrest Drive erupted for unknown reasons shortly before 6 p.m., according to the San Diego Fire-Rescue Department.

The victim was pronounced dead at the scene after being pulled by firefighters from the home’s attached garage, which was left roofless as a result of the fire, SDFRD Capt. Joe Amador said.

It took firefighters about a half-hour to fully extinguish the flames.

The cause of the fire, which did an estimated $250,000 in damage to the home, was under investigation, Amador said.
