A 44-year-old Chula Vista man was found dead early Thursday in the mixed-use office building in which he resided.

Homicide detectives were summoned to investigate after someone reported the man’s body around 1:30 a.m. at the building at 45 Third Ave., according to Chula Vista Police.

It was not immediately clear how the victim died, but investigators were following an “evidence trail” of blood and clothing that stretched past a Starbucks coffee shop near North Glover Court, Chula Vista Police Lt. Christine Penwell said.

As of about 8:30 a.m., police had not made any arrests in connection with the man’s death. Penwell said the investigation was in its beginning stages and police were working to interview possible witnesses and gather evidence.
