A large truck hauling groceries caught fire and delayed traffic on the 15 Freeway just north of the Riverside-San Diego county line for eight hours Saturday.

The incident was first reported around 1:30 a.m. on the southbound 15 at the Temecula Parkway off-ramp, in Temecula, according to the California Highway Patrol.

The fire was caused by a chunk of rubber that got wedged in the back axle of a Costco truck carrying groceries. The contents inside of the rig caught fire, but no fuel was spilled, the CHP reported.

A Sig Alert was issued around 9:30 a.m.

Firefighters put out the blaze and were expected to take until about noon to clean up the debris.
