Authorities released the name Friday of a man killed in a possibly gang-related shooting in Escondido.
The gunfire in the area of 11th Avenue and Orange Street erupted about 9:30 p.m. Thursday. Patrol officers found no suspects or victims in the area, Lt. Neal Griffin said. Minutes later, however, two gunshot victims showed up at Palomar Medical Center.
One of the wounded Escondido residents, 22-year-old Jonathan Vazquez, died later in the evening. The other, Jose Angel Rojas, 23, was admitted for treatment of an apparently non-life-threatening leg wound.
Homicide and gang detectives were investigating the shooting, Griffin said.
No arrests in the case had been announced by late this afternoon.
