A driver caused a crash at a Del Cerro intersection and struck an 80-year-old woman walking nearby then ditched his car in an attempt to get away, but was later arrested.

The driver of a silver 2000 Saturn turned into the path of a silver 2013 Audi at the intersection of College Avenue and Del Cerro Boulevard and the two cars collided shortly after noon, San Diego police Officer Frank Cali said.

The crash sent the Saturn up onto the sidewalk where it struck the pedestrian, Cali said. The driver then sped off and headed west on Del Cerro Boulevard.

The pedestrian was taken to a hospital to be treated for a non-life- threatening head injury, Cali said. The Audi’s driver and passenger complained of pain and were also hospitalized, according to the officer.

Officers spotted the Saturn abandoned on nearby Arno Drive and caught up to its driver shortly after. He was arrested on suspicion of felony hit and run, Cali said.

The suspect’s name was not immediately made available.
