A 68-year-old Riverside County man died Thursday in a solo crash on a curving stretch of State Route 79 near Warner Springs.The Beaumont resident was heading north through the Sunshine Summit area when his Nissan Frontier pickup veered to the right off the roadway for unknown reasons about 9:45 a.m., according to the California Highway Patrol.

The truck went down a rocky embankment near Fink Road, hit a tree and overturned, CHP public-affairs Officer Kevin Pearlstein said.

Though he was properly restrained by a safety belt, the driver died at the scene of the accident. His name was withheld pending family notification.
