Authorities put out a call Tuesday for tips that can help identify a man who has carried out a series of residential burglaries in Ocean Beach over the last several weeks.
Investigators believe the same thief is responsible for the spree of home invasion thefts, which have occurred late at night or early in the morning, when the victims were asleep in their homes, according to San Diego police.
The perpetrator generally has targeted residences with unlocked doors or windows, stealing money, electronics and other valuables. In one case, he cut a screen to gain entry.
Following is a list of dates and locations of the crimes:
- Dec. 25, 5000 block of Niagara Avenue;
- Jan. 5, 5000 block of Saratoga Avenue;
- Jan. 6, 2100 block of Spray Street;
- Jan. 7, 5000 block of Del Monte Avenue;
- Jan. 9, 2100 block of Spray Street;
- Jan. 12, 4900 block of Saratoga Avenue; and
- Jan. 12, 5000 block of Long Branch Avenue.
The burglar was described as black, 20 to 30 years old, 5 feet 7 inches to 6 feet tall and possibly bald. He has worn dark sweat pants and a hooded sweat shirt during the crimes and may speak with a Jamaican accent or similar foreign inflection.
Anyone with information about the burglaries was asked to call San Diego County Crime Stoppers at (888) 580-8477. Tipsters may remain anonymous and could be eligible for a reward of up to $1,000.
