A man suspected of setting his live-in girlfriend on fire was behind bars Monday following a 7 1/2-hour SWAT standoff in City Heights.
Vidal Abraham Webb, 41, was arrested by San Diego police SWAT officers shortly before 12:30 a.m. at a home in the 3800 block of Chamoune Avenue near Wightman Street. Police and sheriff’s deputies had surrounded the home after receiving an anonymous tip around 4:30 p.m. Sunday.
More than 12 hours earlier, Webb allegedly set his girlfriend on fire in the 13800 block of Belvedere Drive in Poway. She was taken to UCSD Medical Center’s Burn Unit with serious injuries, sheriff’s Sgt. Chad Boudreau said.
Deputies were sent to the Poway home around 5:10 a.m. Sunday, after someone called for help saying a woman was on fire and other residents were dousing her with water, Boudreau said. Webb fled before deputies arrived, he said.
Webb was booked into the San Diego Central Jail on suspicion of attempted murder and arson causing great bodily injury. He was being held without bail pending arraignment, which is expected Wednesday morning, according to sheriff’s officials and jail records.
