San Diego Police Tuesday released the name of a man who died under suspicious circumstances following an altercation at a strip club in the Midway District.

Joseph Charles Thomas, 37, was detained by private security for “causing a disturbance” at Pacers Showgirls International in the 3300 block of Midway Drive early Saturday, according to San Diego Police Lt. Mike Hastings.

Police were called to the business shortly after midnight and found Thomas unconscious, the homicide lieutenant said in a statement.

Paramedics took him to a local hospital, where he died about an hour later, Hastings said, adding that the cause of death will not be known until the county’s Medical Examiner’s Office completes its autopsy report in the next few weeks.
