San Diego golfers can help raise needed funds for the police SWAT team at the 10th annual Citizens for SWAT tournament Oct. 30 at Maderas Golf Club in Poway.
Funds raised last year allowed the San Diego Police Department to buy new weapons and gear to replace outdated equipment — some of it over two decades old — and outfitted 22 new officers.
The Citizens for SWAT committee, composed of local businesses and SWAT members, will kick off promotion for the event Thursday when Mayor Kevin Faulconer and Police Chief Shelley Zimmerman hold a press conference at the golf club.
Since its inception, the organization has raised over $800,000 in funds from community sponsors to provide the SWAT team the most up-to-date and effective gear.
Interested golfers can register online to take part in the tournament. Commercial sponsorships are also available.
